Mission Update: Image is Everything

Image Is Everything

The old maxim that says "Image is everything" holds true in Hollywood--and in the job market, too!  In many cases, an employer's hiring decision is made in the first few seconds of a job interview!   As one of Wayside Christian Mission's goals is placing our women and men back into the workplace, we sought the help of Chris Fulkerson.  Ms. Fulkerson is owner of VIP Studio, a professional wardrobe consultant, freelance writer, professional fashion show producer, sought after speaker, and owner of Belle Madame Modeling School and Agency.  Educated at the London Image Institute, Chris Fulkerson has all the right credentials for helping our ladies in their quest to find meaningful employment!

Referred to us by mutual friend and Wayside supporter Joyce King Jennings, Ms. Fulkerson led a dynamic presentation on the finer points of fashion that wins points with employers!  The ladies in our recovery program loved Chris' simple approach to fashion on a shoestring budget.  She also referred our ladies to Dress for Success, an organization that helps women in need with clothing appropriate for the workplace!   Your support of Wayside Christian Mission helps women ensnared by the ravages of substance abuse and alcoholism return to the community as sober, productive citizens. With God's help and your financial support, Wayside Christian Mission will continue mending broken lives!  We are grateful to Chris Fulkerson for donating her time and talents to the wonderful ladies God has placed in our care.

Joyce King Jennings On Successful Living

Joyce King Jennings On Successful Living

Breast cancer awareness, statewide health care forums, multiple civic and charitable events--these are all in a day's work for Joyce King Jennings--truly one of our community's busiest civic and social leaders!  Thankfully, Joyce was able to make time for leading a special ladies' recovery class at the Mission.  After completing our recovery program, our ladies will want to return to the community as self-supporting citizens, but this is often easier said than done!  Guest teachers such as Joyce King Jennings help our women in preparing for life outside of the Mission.  As she said, "Success is something you attract by the person you become."  Good words, indeed! By improving ourselves, we improve the likelihood for successful living--and we want our ladies to live successfully once they leave our care!  Thank you, Joyce!  Your presentation was appreciated by these wonderful women who, by the mercy of God, have been placed in our care!

A Special Thank You To Vincent Lopriore

A Special Thank You To Vincent Lopriore

Wayside Christian Mission's Hotel Louisville offers real world job training to many of the women and men in our recovery program.  Besides the hands-on experience gained by working in a fully operational hotel, our work therapy participants also receive formal classroom training.  This training and hands-on experience helps to prepare our resident clients in returning to the workforce.  Recently Vincent Lopriore, Four Points by Sheraton Lexington's general manager, spent time with one of Wayside Christian Mission's vocational teachers coaching him in some of the finer points of the hospitality industry.  With fourteen years of hotel management experience, the knowledge offered by Mr. Lopriore will prove to be invaluable in our hospitality training program.  Mr. Lopriore, a native of southern New Jersey, is a husband and father who enjoys living and working in Kentucky!  When asked about his work as a busy hotel's general manager, he explained that his motivation came from his enjoyment of working with people!  And he is indeed a real people person!  Wayside Christian Mission is grateful for the time Mr. Lopriore spent in helping us with improving our hospitality training!
