Southeast Christian Church Members Minister!

Every Friday evening from 6:30 to 9, members of Southeast Christian Church come to Wayside Christian Mission's Family Campus and provide a much needed time for parents to get some rest as they provide childcare for children that stay with Wayside. Trina West, coordinator of the group, says this opportunity started with her 4 years ago when she was in charge of shopping for the individuals that her Bible study took to Southeast’s Easter pageant. After she started her responsibilities to shop for them she felt like God was calling her to have real relationships with the residents here at Wayside so she decided to start coming one Friday night a month with her family and pray over the names of the people she encountered when she came. Today the once a month volunteer time has turned into a every Friday night event that involves as many as 4 other churches. Mrs. West says “Wayside has become a part of my life and I know it will stay a part of my life forever”. Trina has set up three different rooms for the kids and games are age appropriate. The two older groups have the opportunity to play Wii which the West family bought with their own money for our residents here. Wayside is thankful to God that He placed Trina and her family along their path to serve the needy in the Louisville community.

U of L Nursing Students Help Residents at the Hotel

University of Louisville’s Community Health class under the supervision of Barbara Jackson will be conducting exercise classes, educate residents on portion control, blood pressure and teach life skills. These classes will be an hour long each and will start at 10 am and 2 pm will The class will also be serving lunch to the residents from 11 am to 1 pm. Margaret Brendle of Spring Lake, NJ stated her experience so far has opened her eyes and “ is so grateful for the opportunity this building gives to people who are in need.” Whitney Graves of Campbellsville, KY said, “ We all are really excited about conducting classes with the residents here.”

God Bless the Students!

Every Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm, students in Spencerian College’s Nursing Program come to Hotel Louisville and the Emergency Shelter to give free health screenings and educate residents on body fat analysis and hypertension. Every week new students come but students say their experience at Wayside helps them to better show respect and dignity to others no matter their situation. Mark Swift, student in the Nursing Program says, “ Since coming to Wayside today, I have seen the need for the Mission and I feel like I will be a better RN because of this experience.”
