JCTC Knows What Being A Good Neighbor Is All About

Good neighbors are always there to lend a helping hand!  With that said, we are pleased that Jefferson Community and Technical College has proven to be our good neighbor!   Recently, Pamela Smithy's occupational therapy students have taken an active role in leading our work therapy clients in valuable job skills training!  While it might be a surprise to some, the Mission's Hotel Louisville is staffed almost entirely by women and men who are either in our recovery program or have graduated from our recovery program.  Many men and women who have limited job skills have enjoyed the gratification and satisfaction of a job well done that came through meaningful work experiences gained at Hotel Louisville.  But hands-on training is not always enough--formal classroom training further enhances our work therapy participants' knowledge and understanding.

Ms. Smithy's occupational therapy students developed a series of memorable learning presentations developed for those who staff the hotel.  Presentations in quality customer service, cleanliness, and effective communicating were all on the menu!   Best of all, the students leading these classes were properly prepared and well rehearsed!  According to the Wayside clients, these five learning experiences were definitely "two thumbs up."  Pamela Smithy and her students are further proof that Jefferson Community and Technical College reaches out beyond their campus in serving the community  at large!  From the teachings of Jesus, we learn that neighbors are those in need.  Our friends at JCTC understand the needs of Louisville's homeless population and are working to make life better for everyone!
