Happy Thanksgiving!!!

What a wonderful day at the Mission as people from all over the community came to help prepare and serve our Thanksgiving meals. Nearly 3000 meals were served between both our family and women’s campus and our men’s campus.. Volunteers filled the kitchen at both locations by 4:30 AM. By 6 AM you could hardly walk through the crowd and every job was being worked. Stan Curtis, founder of Kentucky Harvest and USA Harvest and his Harvest helper John Marcum came by to visit with the clients and volunteers wishing them a Happy Thanksgiving. Harvest provided a number of the turkeys, pumpkin pies, and sweet potatoes for this special day.

The Mission’s “Down By The Wayside Choir” provided some wonderful Gospel music and spirited versions of many traditional Christmas songs. Each volunteer was given a CD of the choir to take with them as they completed their work. The choir members are current and past residents of the Mission that come and sing God’s praises. Many of the residents are recovering from alcohol and drug addiction or emotional problems.
